Creative Writing Students Launch Anthology 'Alms on the Highway'

Alms on the Highway a new collection of work by the M.Phil in Creative Writing students at the Oscar Wilde Centre for Irish Writing, School of English was launched by the Minister for Arts, Heritage and Gaeltacht Affairs at the Gutter Bookshop in Dublin recently.

As well as Ireland, this year’s  students   come from Australia, Canada,  Nigeria and the United States  and  their lecturers include well known authors Richard Ford, Terry Pratchett, Carlo Gébler, Peter Fallon, Deirdre Madden and Gerald Dawe.

Speaking at the launch Minister Deenihan said: “Alms on the Highway is a wonderful collection of writing which does Trinity proud. All the contributors deserve congratulations on the standard of the poetry, short fiction and radio drama which covers an international spectrum reflective of their countries of origin. I very much look forward to seeing the students’ names on the covers of future works penned by them.”

“The well-established Masters programme in creative writing has in this year's student group produced yet again a first rate anthology which provides fascinating insights into the work that they have been engaged  in, at the Oscar Wilde Centre since September 2010. The students, who come from various parts of the globe, have fashioned a book in their own image.” Director of the Oscar Wilde Centre, Gerry Dawe added.
