TCD Hosts Photography Exhibition to Mark Anniversary of the Haiti Earthquake

‘Haiti Lives – One Year On’, a photographic exhibition marking the one year anniversary of the 2010 earthquake in Haiti, captures daily life in Haiti since the earthquake of January 2010 and documents the work that has taken place during the past twelve months by organisations that are helping locals rebuild their lives. The exhibition, which is on show to the public in the Atrium at TCD (January 20th - February 9th next), has been coordinated by the Trinity International Development Initiative (TIDI) in collaboration with Oxfam Ireland with additional images provided by the Soul of Haiti Foundation.
Speaking at the launch event in TCD, Professor Jane Grimson, Chair of TIDI said: "The Trinity International Development Initiative is delighted to collaborate with Oxfam Ireland to co-host 'Haiti Lives - One Year On' with the support of the Soul of Haiti Foundation. The exhibition reminds us that although a year has passed, the Haitian people still require the support of the international community in rebuilding their country after the devastating earthquake. Researchers and students at TCD can and do make a large contribution through partnership with individuals and institutions in low-income countries and TIDI continues to support and encourage this engagement". Other speakers at the launch event included CEO of Oxfam Ireland, Jim Clarken, and Chairman of the Soul of Haiti Foundation, Michael Carey who spoke about ongoing work undertaken by their organisations in Haiti.
The Trinity International Development Initiative was established in 2008 to maximise Trinity College Dublin’s contribution to understanding and addressing the major global development challenges of our time through research, teaching and outreach activities. Oxfam Ireland is an independent, secular, not-for-profit organisation, committed to working with people to overcome poverty and injustice worldwide. Oxfam’s work in Haiti since the earthquake is documented in the photographic exhibition. The Soul of Haiti Foundation aims to support the development of an enterprise culture, facilitating trade and investment and supporting selected humanitarian projects in Haiti. Images included in the exhibition and provided by the organisation depict life in Haiti in recent months.
The exhibition is free and open to the public.
