<title>Trinity Researcher Wins Engineers Ireland Biomedical Research Medal</title>
<summary>Trinity postgraduate student Eamon Sheehy of the Trinity Centre for Bioengineering was recently awarded the 2012 Engineers Ireland Biomedical Research Medal for his significant contribution to the field of biomedical engineering research.  Eamon was selected as the winner from a shortlist of four finalists after presenting his research paper at the 18th Annual Conference of the Bioengineering Section of the Royal Academy of Medicine in Ireland.&#160;</summary>

<title>Trinity and Harvard go Head-to-Head in Student Economic Review Debate</title>
<summary>Debating teams from Trinity College Dublin and Harvard University recently took part in the Trinity Student Economic Review (SER) debate chaired by the Provost Dr Patrick Prendergast.  Debating for the motion, that &#8220;This House Believes the US State Does Not Care for Its Sick&#8221;, the Harvard team narrowly defeated their Trinity rivals in the overall debate which saw Trinity&#8217;s Catherine Murphy, an undergraduate student studying History and French, win the Best Speaker Award.&#160;</summary>

<title>President Higgins Opens Ireland&#8217;s First Students&#8217; Economic Forum</title>
<summary>President Michael D. Higgins opened the inaugural Trinity Economic Forum on Friday, February 3rd last. The forum was entirely run by student volunteers and welcomed 150 students from across the island of Ireland to debate and participate in shaping the future of the Irish economy.  The two day event included experts and commentators in economics with participation from the student audience.&#160;</summary>

<title>Trinity Academic Explores Development of Popular Visual Culture in Ireland in Two New Publications</title>
<summary>Two new books, Magic Lantern, Panorama and Moving Picture Shows in Ireland, 1786&#8211;1909 and Film Exhibition and Distribution in Ireland, 1909&#8211;2010, provide a fresh context for understanding the development of popular culture, including cinema, in Ireland.  To mark the publication of the books the authors, Professor of Film Studies at Trinity&#8217;s School of Drama, Film and Music, Kevin Rockett, and his wife Emer, were recently invited by President Michael D. Higgins to visit &#193;ras an Uachtar&#225;in.&#160;</summary>

<title>Trinity Geneticist Receives Prestigious European Research Council Grant to Build DNA Data Matrix of Ancient Domestic Animals</title>
<summary>A &#8364;2.5 million grant has been awarded to Professor of Population Genetics, Dan Bradley of the School of Genetics and Microbiology at Trinity College Dublin to enable him to continue his research into ancient DNA of domestic animals from archaeological samples. The prestigious European Research Council (ERC) Advanced Grant was awarded for a period of five years.&#160;</summary>

<title>Trinity Researchers Develop Innovative Water Disinfection System</title>
<summary>Researchers from Trinity College Dublin&#8217;s School of Engineering have developed a new solar powered water disinfection system which could revolutionise the supply of clean, safe water in developing countries.  The solar disinfection unit, which has been piloted in the remote Kenyan village of Ndulyani, is a low cost, low maintenance system which requires only energy from sunlight to run.&#160;</summary>
