Trinity College Dublin Library

Our Library is the largest library in Ireland and one of the largest research libraries in Europe. We have about 4.5 million printed volumes, significant holdings of maps and printed music with an extensive collection of literary and historical manuscripts, the most famous being The Book of Kells. These collections have been built up from the end of the sixteenth century and by the privilege we have had since 1801 of receiving all Irish and UK copyright material (currently over 100,000 new items are added each year). As well as printed material, the Library has considerable breadth of electronic resources and presently provides access to 30,000 electronic journals and nearly 300,000 online books.

The Library’s reading rooms provide study spaces for 3,200 readers and all are provided with wireless connection to the world wide web via the campus network. The Library has a specialist Conservation Department, an assistive technology suite and multimedia facilities.

The Old library, with its Long Room and Book of Kells exhibitions attracts half a million visitors per year, making us one of the biggest tourist attractions in Ireland.
