Scholarship Exams

The College offers a number of Foundation Scholarships, carrying with them considerable prestige as well as financial benefit, each year on the basis of a competitive examination held in early January. Students are entitled to sit the Scholarship examination at any stage of the undergraduate programme, but are advised to do so in the Senior Freshman year. A first-class performance in the exam is a prerequisite for the award of a Scholarship, and we strongly recommend that only those students with at least a good 2:1 in their previous year’s examination go forward for Scholarship. Candidates must give notice of their intention to take the examination on the prescribed form, obtainable from the Senior Lecturer’s office in West Theatre by the closing date (1st November 2010). Further information concerning the format and requirements of the Scholarship exams for SH Classics and for TSM Greek, Latin, Ancient History and Archaeology, and Classical Studies is available from the Department. All students intending to take the Foundation Scholarship examination must first consult with the Head of Department.
