Research Centres

The Department of Classics plays an active role in the following TCD research centres.

MNES

Centre for Mediterranean and Near Eastern Studies (MNES)

MNES is a collaborative venture of research and teaching between the Department of Classics and the Department of Religions and Theology at Trinity College Dublin. The aim of the project is to explore the cultural dialogue and interchange in antiquity between East and West within the regions of the Mediterranean and Near East. The Centre has been funded throught Trinity College’s Long Room Hub by the Government of Ireland’s National Development Plan, under the auspices of the Higher Education Authority’s Programme for Research in Third Level Institutions.

The Plato Centre

The Centre organizes and directs a variety of activities in the area of the history of Platonism and contemporary philosophy in the Platonist tradition. Based in Trinity College, the Center draws its members from all the major universities in the Dublin area. It combines several subject areas in addition to its core disciplines: philosophy and classics.
