How I found this job:
A contact I made while doing my masters thesis in World Heritage Management in UCD sent me a link about a new project called "Working for Nature - Nature for Working" run by EUROPARC, advertised on the Heritage website.
Training provision in this company:
EUROPARC offers professional informaiton and guidance on the project and the park at which I'm an intern trains me on all park management issues and the practicalities of working in the field.
Most important skills and knowledge I use in my job:
Management techniques, all the information I gained through my degree and masters and my organisational and decision making skills.
Most interesting part of my work:
Seeing first hand how a nature park is run.
Most challenging part of my work:
Everything! The park is very young (Apuseni Nature Park, Romania) and has a lot of management issues to deal with and not many staff. Contacting all relevant parties in Romania to obtain their involvment in the project 'Working for Nature' is proving particularly challenging.
Advice for current TCD students entering the employment market:
Do voluntary work if it's appropriate for your field (to get some experience), be up to date with the goings on in your field, keep looking for the job you want and be willing to get stuck in and try new things. |
