How I found this job:
A position of Statistician/Analyst for the Hospital In-Patient Enquiry (HIPE) data was advertised in the Paper. HIPE is the principal source of national data on discharges from acute public hospitals in Ireland. The ESRI is contracted by the Department of Health to manage this system. The position was based in the Dept of Health in Hawkins House, but my employer was the ESRI. I worked in Hawkins House for 9 months on HIPE data. A position became vacant in the HIPE & NPRS Unit at the ESRI. I went for it and have been here as NPRS Manager since June 2003.

Advice for current TCD students entering the employment market:
Just get started at some job, the first job will rarely be the best one, or even live up to your expectations. But it is a start and is never a waste of time, you will always learn something. I learnt as much as I could in the first 9 months of my position and went for a different job in the company. My new position is very busy and rewarding. |
