Advice For Your Year - Prospective Student

Thinking of studying at Trinity, as an undergraduate or postgraduate? The College has a set of web pages for intending students with information on courses, accommodation and student life at Trinity.

Career Prospects

In the context of severe recession in Ireland Trinity graduates were very successful in the graduate job market with 57% of students from the class of 2008 obtaining employment directly after finishing their primary degree with 45% of them finding jobs in Ireland. The picture was even better for postgraduates with 72% going into employment, 59% of them in Ireland. More detailed information is available for the course or programme you are thinking about, at What TCD Graduates Do.

Against a background of economic contraction, forecast variously to be of the order of 8-9%, the employment market in Ireland for the class of 2009 will be extremely challenging particularly as unemployment tends to lag behind any economic growth. Success will depend on graduates being well prepared, proactive and realistic.

Transferable Skills

Employers are particularly interested in the skills you develop while in College. Apart from taking part in an Erasmus exchange programme, there are many opportunities to learn a language, become more proficient in using computers or to develop good interpersonal, organisational or leadership skills.

Careers Advice

When you arrive at the College you will join a faculty and be assigned to a Careers Adviser who will be available to help you to make an informed decision about your future. Check out the advice for current students in this section.

Alumni Global Network

Finally, after graduation you will become part of a global network of alumni of the College. We hope that you will stay in contact and encourage others wishing to study here.

It was lovely speaking with you Wednesday. I appreciated your straightforward and proactive advice, given that I didn't know what to expect coming back to Dublin. Thank you for such an informative meeting!
