Plan your Career - Start Now!

No time like the present to start thinking about what you would like to do with your life and planning to make it happen!

  • Attend the 'Moving Forward' workshop with your Careers Adviser in Michaelmas Term. Generally a one hour session targeted at Senior Sophisters. Topics include making the best use of recruitment events during term, applying for postgraduate study and taking time out.
  • Attend Careers Week workshop in Michaelmas Term
  • Use the suggested "Starting Points" leaflet to direct you towards the resources relevant to your situation.
  • Start planning your career using the SODA model in Plan Your Career. Included on this page we recommend you also use:
    • Destinations® (Only available to TCD students and graduates). An online sequence of activities and exercises that lead Senior Frensh to Postgraduate students through the self-assessment and career planning process.
    • Prospects Planner - which has a database of several hundred jobs and will generate more career options.

Bring a copy of your profiles, which you can print out when you complete the assessment, to your meeting with your Careers Adviser.

  • Personal Development Programme: If you are a student in a department offering the PDP now is a good time to review your PCDR. See PDP for more information.

 

Newsletter - Options Finalist

  • Options Finalist newsletter is published annually with information being mailed weekly during the academic year.

  • It includes information on vacancies, closing dates, presentations, workshops, postgraduate awards and advertised courses.

 

Postgraduate Study

  • Explore the postgraduate study section of this site.

  • Thinking of studying in the USA?

    • Apply for the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) if you are applying to Graduate Schools in the US in September.
    • Apply for the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) if you are applying to Graduate School of Management.
    • Applications need to be submitted to the US University in the December before starting study.

Job Search

  • Get yourself that interview. Read the Job Search pages and attend the CV & Application Form workshops.
  • Now, get yourself that job at interview. Read the Interview pages and attend the Interview workshop. Book yourself in for a Video Practice Interview.
  • Perform at your best at assessment centres and testing sessions, attend the Assessment Centre workshop and use the numerical, verbal and conceptual reasoning tests at Profiling for Success.
  • Participate in the Employer Events on and off campus.
