GET TOGETHER 2013
A day of engaged sharing, networking and information provision

	Friday 28 June, 2013
National College of Art & Design, Dublin

Visual Artists Ireland is pleased to announce that the Get Together 2013 will take place on Friday, June 28th at the National College of Art & Design, Dublin.

The Get Together 2013 gives practicing artists and those involved in the contemporary art world the opportunity to hear from and engage in discussion with invited international and local speakers about a number of key concerns and opportunities.

This day-long event comprises four strands that will run simultaneously: Short Information Briefings, Art Writing, Current Trends in Academia and Cultural Corridors. The Common Room Cafe will provide a social space through out the day for taking time out, networking and gaining information. A Speed Curating event will also take place, where artists and curators will meet in quick-fire sessions. During lunch, our keynote speaker (TBA) will deliver a talk, and the day will culminate with a wine reception where discussions from the day can be continued in an informal way.
There will also be a prize draw, where the winner will receive an original work by Nathalie du Pasquier entitled Sligo (5). Your paid registration will entitle you to a ticket as well as entry on the day.
________________________________________

	STRAND ONE: SHORT BRIEFINGS
Quick, informative sessions on a variety of topics relating to the visual arts.
Talks include: Empty Spaces, (The Complex, Occupy Space, Household); Self Curating (Mary Conlon); Outside the Box: Becoming an activist in your local area (Linda Shevlin, Lisa Fingleton); Thinking About Abroad (ArtQuest); European Cultural Contact Point: The Arts Council Perspective; Internships (the aspirations and the reality); Arts Audiences (Jen Coppinger); Artists' Payments; Legal Contracts; Digital Archiving / Limited Edition Publishing (Leszek Wolnik); Collaboration and Exchange (Peter Richards).

	STRAND TWO: ART WRITING
'Publicise, Interrogate, Record', in partnership with AICA Ireland.
'Publicise, Interrogate, Record' will build on the focus of the Get Together 2012 Art Writing strand: the rise of independent online (and other) visual arts publishing in Ireland. This year, discussion will centre on exploring how the visual arts can reach out beyond its own media, to more mainstream journalism in order to address wider audiences.
Speakers from the worlds of academia, art history and representatives from the mainstream media will consider the multiple meanings, functions and potential of publicising the visual arts, addressing diverse topics that include: art-speak, the role of press-release, mainstream media perceptions of the visual arts sector, and the role of exhibition catalogues and monographs.
This strand will also include presentations from Mea Lerm Hayes of Ulster University. More to come about this section.

	STRAND THREE: ACADEMIA
Val Connor and Una Henry talk on current trends in visual arts academia both in Ireland and in Europe.

	STRAND FOUR: CULTURAL CORRIDORS
Patrick Fox of CREATE leads a series of curated talks by artists who work collaboratively, looking especially at the Dublin Liverpool 'cultural corridor'.
Following on from a CREATE's successful involvement in the 2012 Get Together, a selection of artists will reflect on the motivations behind their work, to elaborate on the processes they undertake in the creation of work, and to consider these in relation to the role of the artist in civic life. The emphasis will on shaping discussions with artists whose collaborations and artistic process inspire them to engage in social, environmental and political arenas.

	SPEED CURATING
This event will take place after the talks, and provide artists and curators with the opportunity to meet on a one-to-one basis and discuss current work projects and interests in a sociable 'speed dating' format. Curators from Ireland and abroad will be available for this fast paced event. Places will need to be pre-booked, and allocated on a first come first served basis.
[When we have received full payment for your attendance, you will receive details on how to apply to be part of the Speed Dating event. As there is limited availability, it is important to ensure that you register and pay quickly]

	COMMON ROOM CAFE
The Common Room Café is a social space within the event, where people can take time out, relax, network and also gain access to some of the opportunities made available to them by leading visual arts organisations. Stalls around the café area will display each organisation's services / facilities and representatives will be on hand to offer advice to the artists and curators in attendance.
Your payment includes a light lunch and refreshments as well as access to our networking drinks party that will take place at the end of the day. It is important to register as quickly as possible to take advantage of the early bird discount (20%) and to allow us to fully plan for the day.
