5th Postgraduate Skills Development Summer School, 21st & 22nd June 2011

There were two objectives of the Summer School.

  1. To provide you, the postgraduate student, with information, skills and self-management strategies which will help you work towards successfully completing your degree and planning your future career;
  2. To encourage a sense of collegiality by encouraging you to discuss your postgraduate experiences and to network with your peers, as well as with academic and administrative staff.

The focus was on developing generic skills in three thematic areas through workshops and general sessions:

  1. Personal/Professional Development – managing your research, increasing personal effectiveness and career management;
  2. Pathway to Publishing – exploring ways to publish and disseminate your research;
  3. Communication and presentation – writing strategies and developing effective presentations

Student Learning Development are running a two day event for PhD students to help you to develop your academic and self management skills - Monday 18th June and Tuesday 19th June 2012

Workshops include help with the thesis writing process (e.g. carrying out systematic literature reviews, critical writing skills and getting to grips with EndNote), presentation and viva skills workshops and advice on time and stress management.
