Supervision
Visions of Academic Supervision at Doctoral Level in Trinity: the VOS Study
The number and diversity of postgraduate students has increased over the past years within the Irish higher education system and at Trinity College.
Trinity has a long and established tradition of PhD research and is now embarking on a study to explore views on the nature of effective supervision and approaches to practice within and across disciplines among experienced members of academic staff and research leaders.
The work is being led by a cross-college postgraduate supervision research group (PSRG) formed in 2008. The group comprises academic staff from a range of Schools, with representatives of CAPSL and the Graduate Studies Office. Dr David Delany in CAPSL conducted the field research (interviews and focus groups) on behalf of the group between January and July 2009. Preliminary results were presented at the NAIRTL Annual Conference TCD Nov 11-12, 2009 (12.50MB, PDF) (pg 34/102).
