Podcasting
There are two podcasting services available in College for teaching and learning.
Firstly an Academic may capture their lecture using ISS services equipment and make this lecture available to their students for playback. Currently such podcasts cannot be accessed outside College. However the eLearning team has helped in providing a hosting area by uploading these podcasts to the VLE. Support is given to the academic community through a podcasting course hosted by ISS/CLT. The role played by the eLearning team in the training course is to make the lecturer aware of the importance of educational support in developing podcasts using technology in T & L. Lecturers often point to these podcasts from the VLE so students may access the content within the on-line course. External access is required from the blog for this service to be of real benefit in teaching & learning.
The second ‘type’ of podcasting used in teaching and learning is when lecturers wish to create a reusable piece of video or audio that will be integrated to an on-line course for a long period of time. This ‘reuseable object’ has been developed to support student in the learning of a particular learning outcome. Activities maybe included in the object developed. The eLearning team recommends a software application called CAMTASIA to produce the best quality video. The learning objects created in this process are stored in the VLE.
