1. Travel Insurance

The College Travel Insurance policy and online form is available on the College Travel Insurance Web Page. This page can only be accessed by Trinity College staff and postgraduates. In addition you must be registered on the TCD portal to be able to use this webpage. It is a requirement of the policy that the relevant form is completed and authorised before each and every journey is undertaken.

If you have difficulties accessing the form online, a downloadable version is available at: Travel Insurance Form. This form should be completed and returned to Michelle Henrick, Director of Buildings Office, West Chapel, Trinity College, Dublin 2.

Security Status

No journey is covered to any area and specifically any country or part of a country where there is a security status of level 3, 4 or 5. To identify the security status associated with your particular destination please refer to the Travel Advice section of the Department of Foreign Affairs website www.dfa.ie

  1. Take normal precautions
  2. Exercise caution
  3. Exercise extreme caution
  4. Avoid non-essential travel
  5. Do not travel

Where there is a status level of 3,4 or 5 on the Department of Foreign Affairs website www.dfa.ie please refer to the Director of Buildings' Office for advice.

2. Special Events Insurance
Please note that all requests for specific cover relating to Special Events in College should be made to the Director of Buildings' Office at least two working weeks in advance of the event date, to allow the relevant insurance requirements to be gathered and passed to the College's broker for review.

3. Computer Insurance

The policy covers any computer or data carrying media owned by the insured including infrastructure, fibre optic cabling and associated/support equipment. The deductible now on each claim is: 5,000 (Five Thousand euro).

4. Property/Business Interruption Insurance

As in previous policies all buildings and contents owned, leased or occupied in connection with the business of the university are covered. The deductible now on each claim is: Fifty Thousand euro. The policy excludes: Latent defects, larceny, terrorism, property in transit, money and requires a warranty that the College keeps its intruder alarm systems maintained in working order.

Important to Note:
Whilst the majority of equipment held on the Asset Register is not covered by insurance by virtue of the deductible amount, please note that it is mandatory to maintain an inventory of equipment for the following reasons:

(i). It is a requirement of the Comptroller and Auditor General and is contained in the recommendations set out in the HEA Framework for Financial Management and Reporting for Irish Universities that Irish Universities are required to account for fixed assets as part of their statements of assets and liabilities.

(ii). The physical safeguarding of the University's assets.

If you have any queries relating to the College's insurance policies please contact Patricia Gray by email at patricia.gray@tcd.ie or Michelle Hendrick by email at mhendric@tcd.ie or at ext. 2251

Traffic Restrictions

Renovations to Houses 38 and 40 on the east side of New Square will commence on Monday July 22nd 2013 with a completion date in February 2014.  This will necessitate certain changes in parking, vehicular and pedestrian routes in New Square.

From 22nd July, 2013 parking will not be available on the east side of New Square or in front of Houses 38 to 40

  • Pedestrian Routes

For safety reasons during the works the path on the western side of New Square (behind the Rubrics) will be restricted to pedestrian and bicycle traffic only.  Pedestrians will also be directed to use the walkway behind Houses 33-37 in front of Aras an Phiarsaigh

  • Vehicular Traffic

A contractor’s compound will be erected to the front of Houses 38 and 40 and a single one way lane for traffic (from north to south) will operate on the east side of New Square.  A single one way lane for traffic (from east to west) will also operate along the southern side of the Square.  A  ‘two way’ traffic flow will operate as normal on the north side of New Square.  Permit holders looking for parking should note the map on the link below which shows the temporary traffic flow arrangements for the duration of the works and vehicles should avoid passing through Front Square at all times.
