| A1 level | …if you have never studied this language before, although you may know some very basic words and phrases. |
| A2 level |
…if you can already understand and say some basic phrases, if you can introduce yourself, ask and answer questions about personal details, if you can interact in a simple way when people speak slowly. |
| B1 level |
…if you can already describe who you are, where you come from, exchange information and communicate in routine tasks (shopping, directions, work). Pass in Leaving Certificate required. |
| B2 level | …if you can already deal with most situations arising whilst travelling in an area where the language is spoken. Pass in Leaving Certificate required + additional linguistic experience (e.g. work/travel required). |
