Student Field Trips
There are two field excursions in year 3 in the module BO3108 Field Botany.
The first is the autumn field excursion which is based in Dublin and takes place in the first week of teaching in the Michaelmas Term. It will involve four days’ field and laboratory studies in a range of ecosystems, including woodland, bogs, salt-marshes and sand-dunes. The second field excursion will be based in the Canary Islands, which is a microcosm of plant diversity, with striking examples of both evolutionary radiation through allopatric speciation and of reliction. We will explore a range of habitats, from arid-zone succulent communities, through montane shrublands and pinewoods to relict laurel forest. The course will take place in Hilary Term. It will be preceded by a short series of lectures and workshops on tropical, subtropical and Mediterranean flora and vegetation.
