Doreen Gabriel

Research Profile

I studied agriculture with focus on resource management in Halle and Goettingen, Germany. Following this, I did a PhD at Goettingen University working on arable weed communities in organic and conventional agriculture. More specifically, I analysed plant communities over a range of temporal and spatial scales and evaluated the effects of local, landscape and regional factors in driving diversity pattern. In 2006 I took up a Post Doc position at Leeds University to work in the interdisciplinary RELU project SCALE, where we study the spatial arrangement of organic farming in England and the corresponding scale-dependent effects of organic farming on farmland biodiversity. The biodiversity assessment in 2007 and 2008 covered a wide range of taxa, including flowering plants, earthworms, epigeal arthropods, pollinators, agricultural pests and their natural enemies and farmland birds. Since end of 2008 I am a Visiting Associate at the Department of Botany at Trinity College Dublin.
