Teaching
The Biology Teaching Centre is responsible for the coordination, management, delivery and assessment of all Junior Freshman and Senior Freshman Biology Teaching on behalf of six ‘Biology’ disciplines and schools in the College. A total of 12 different, five- or 10-credit modules are currently offered - two at Junior Freshman (year 1) level and 10 at Senior Freshman (year 2) - to student of Science (TR071) and several ‘direct entry’ science programmes. In addition, some of these modules are also offered as service teaching to students on a number of Health Science programmes, including Pharmacy, Radiation Therapy and Human Health and Disease. Junior Freshman Biology Modules
Students may take either or both of the following modules in their Junior Freshman year:
- BY1101: Introduction to Molecular and Cellular Biology
- BY1102: Introduction to Evolution, Biodiversity and the Environment
Both modules carry 10 credits. BY1101 runs in Semester 1 (Michaelmas Term) and BY1102 in Semester 2 (Hilary Term).
Senior Freshman Biology Modules
In the Senior Freshman year, students may take one or more (up to a maximum of eight) of the following five-credit modules:
- BY2201: Cell Structure and Function
- BY2202: Vertebrate Form and Function
- BY2203: Metabolism
- BY2204: Evolution
- BY2205: Microbiology
- BY2206: Ecosystem Biology and Global Change
- BY2207: Behaviour
- BY2208: Genetics
- BY2209: Infection and Immunity
- BY2210: Plant and Animal Bioresources
BY2201 to BY2204 run in five-week blocks in Semester 1 (Michaelmas Term) while BY2205 to BY2210 run in similar blocks in Semester 2 (Hilary Term)
