Research in the School of Biochemistry and Immunology

There are currently 116 researchers (21 academics, 45 graduate students and 50 post-doctoral fellows & research assistants) working in the School.

The School has particular strength in immunology and neuroscience, two of the seven major College research pillars. Research groups in the School are studying aspects of inflammation, innate and adaptive immunity, cancer, obesity, aging, neurobiology, nutrition, enzymology, biotechnology and vaccines.

During the period 2003-2006, researchers in the School raised over €21m in research funding, authored over 180 research papers and filed 20 patents.

Research funding has been obtained from Science Foundation Ireland, N.I.H., The Human Frontiers Research Programme, Enterprise Ireland, the Health Research Board, the EC, the Wellcome Trust and from pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. The School now holds Ireland 's 3 N.I.H. project grants.
