Main Area of Interest
My research involves working in conjunction with both the MDG and Prof. Clive Williams’ research group. My work includes performing the functional biochemical and cellular analysis on newly developed in silico designed compounds developed within the Molecular Design Group and confirming the proposed effect of these drugs in in vitro models.
My interests at the moment are focused on the discovery of drugs that effectively target key cell regulators in breast cancer and which successfully induce pro-apoptotic / anti-proliferative effects within the cancer cells. This work involves performing in vitro cell treatments and cell cycle / apoptosis assays in order to screen potential newly developed compounds for efficacy. Projects include the analysis of compounds which target:
All targets for the induction of an apoptotic signal within breast cancer cells.
The aim of the research is to find lead compounds that could be further developed through in silico optimisation and eventually the development of compounds that are effective at inducing apoptotic cell death in breast cancer and ready for in vivo testing.
