Thank you!

I would like to thank all of you who participated in the 15th European Bioenergetics Conference 2008 (EBEC 2008) which was held in Trinity College Dublin 19-24 July 2008.

Photographs taken at the Conference can now be viewed by visiting the Photographs webpage. If you have any particular photographs from EBEC 2008 that you would like to share, don’t hesitate to send them on to us

All in all there were over 530 delegates from over 50 countries, 150 of whom were postgraduate researchers. We awarded 80 students travel grants. There were over 140 lectures, 73 of which were presented through refereed papers published in Biochimica Biophysica Acta (Bioenergetics), plus 70 talks presented through refereed abstracts. In addition, there were over 250 posters, again endorsed by refereed abstracts.

Over 330 delegates attended the EBEC 2008 banquet and we are very grateful to Mary Harney, the Minister for Health and Children, for her excellent address to the delegates.

My thanks also go to the organizing committee of Gavin Davey, Bernie Butler and Siobhan McBennett, and to the staff and postgraduates of the School of Biochemistry and Immunology under the capable guidance of Liam McCarthy and Liam Cross.

I also wish to thank our main sponsors namely Science Foundation Ireland (SFI), The United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation (UMDF), The International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (IUBMB) and Fáilte Ireland.

I look forward to the next EBEC meeting in 2010 in Warsaw Poland.

Richard K. Porter, Chairman of EBEC 2008.
