Junior Sophister Course DescriptionBiochemistry with Structural Biology (TR071)Course Adviser: Dr Amir Khan amirrafk@tcd.ie 'Biochemistry with Structural Biology' is a new moderatorship course offered by the School of Biochemistry and Immunology. The emphasis in this course is on understanding how biological systems perform their vital functions at the molecular level, in scales ranging from cellular organelles to atomic resolution of proteins, DNA and RNA. The course will include current techniques in structural biology, and will draw on expertise from Ireland's first protein X-ray Crystallography Group as well as the newly established Molecular Design Group. The overall aim is to reveal how proteomics, bioinformatics and structural biology converge to provide a structural perspective on biological processes occurring in living cells. The Junior Sophister year consists of a varied programme of lectures, practicals, tutorials and a mini-review of the literature on a chosen topic.
