Licence conditions Department of Health

The experiments shall be performed only at the registered premised detailed overleaf and on other premises.

The registered place(s) shall be maintained substantially as at the time registration was granted by the Minister

The registered place(s) shall be appropriately staffed at all times so as to ensure the well-being of the animals.

Every person performing procedures on an animal must hold a valid license

In any procedure, the degree of severity imposed shall be the minimum consistent with the attainment of the objective of the procedure.

A written record shall be kept of every experiment performed under this license.
Use and final disposal of all animals accommodated in the establishment for scientific purpose and such record shall be produced whenever required by the Minister of by an Inspector appointed under the said Act.

A return shall be furnished to the Minister at such time or times as the Minister may require it, in such form and containing such particulars as the Minister may direct,
of all experiments performed under the said Act by the licensee.

No experiments using curare, or agents having similar effects, may be performed without the special permission of the Minister.

Only animals from breeding and supplying establishments registered by the Department of Health may be used in animal experiments.

All animals shall be provided with housing, an environment, some freedom of movement, food, water and care which are appropriate to their health and well-being.

The environment conditions is which animals are bred or kept shall be checked daily

The animals shall at all times be under the care and supervision of a component person, observing the well-being and state of health of the animals to prevent pain or avoidable suffering, distress, of lasting pain.

A named competent person responsible for the establishment shall be entrusted with the task of administering or arranging for the administration of appropriate car to the animals bred or kept in the establishment

Adequate arrangements shall be made for the provision of veterinary advice and treatment

Any restriction on the extent to which a researcher can’t satisfy an animal’s physiological and ethological need shall be limited to the absolute minimum.

Practical arrangements must be made to provide for the care and welfare of animals at all times, including the holiday periods.
