Health Monitoring

The purpose of health monitoring

Purpose

To monitor the effectiveness of barrier methods and cleaning systems in place.
Known SPF animals (sentinel) will be exposed to bedding from the test animals for 6 weeks.
They will then be autopsied and sampled to FELASA standards.

Procedure

8 ' clean ' animals will be held in 2 small boxes (4x4)
For 6 weeks at each changing a pinch of bedding from each box will be placed in a clean box. after a total of 6 weeks these 8 animals will be subjected to a FELASA health monitoring screen.
This procedure to be done every 6 months.

Hygiene

The effectiveness of cleaning routine of cages will be checked by culturing 'Rodac' plates which have been exposed to previously cleaned cages

The washing temperatures will be monitored .
